Disneyland’s Hot Chocolate is a rich and creamy beverage that combines whole milk, heavy cream, high-quality cocoa powder, and sweetened condensed milk to create a luxurious, thick, and velvety drink. Topped with whipped cream, ground cinnamon, and optional chocolate shavings, this recipe brings the magic of Disneyland right to your kitchen in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Hot Chocolate Base

  • 2-3 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup high-quality cocoa powder
  • 1-2 tablespoons grated milk chocolate
  • 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
  • ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping and Serving

  • Whipped cream
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat Milk and Cream: Pour 2-3 cups of whole milk and ½ cup of heavy cream into a medium-sized heavy-bottomed saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is steaming and tiny bubbles form around the edges. Take care not to let it boil to avoid scalding the milk, which can affect the taste.
  2. Prepare Chocolate Mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together ½ cup cocoa powder and 1-2 tablespoons of grated milk chocolate. Add about ½ cup of the hot milk mixture to this bowl and whisk until smooth to prevent lumps in the hot chocolate.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Slowly pour the chocolate mixture back into the saucepan while whisking constantly. Add the entire can of sweetened condensed milk and ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract, whisking until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  4. Simmer and Thicken: Reduce the heat to low and simmer the mixture for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently. The hot chocolate should thicken enough to coat the back of a spoon. Adjust the thickness by adding a little more milk if desired.
  5. Serve: Ladle the hot chocolate into heat-resistant mugs. Top with whipped cream, sprinkle with ground cinnamon, and add chocolate shavings if desired. Serve immediately for an authentic Disneyland experience.

Notes

  • Do not let the milk mixture boil to prevent scalding and bitterness.
  • Use high-quality cocoa powder and milk chocolate for the best flavor.
  • You can adjust the thickness of the hot chocolate by adding more milk after simmering.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the hot chocolate at its best consistency and taste.
  • Optional chocolate shavings add an extra layer of decadence but can be omitted if preferred.
