This Spicy Sausage Cheese Dip is a rich, creamy, and flavorful appetizer combining browned spicy breakfast sausage, Velveeta cheese, sour cream, and a blend of zesty seasonings. Slow-cooked to perfection, this dip is ideal for parties and gatherings, served hot with chips, crusty bread, or veggies for dipping.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 pound spicy breakfast sausage, browned and drained

Dairy

  • 1 pound Velveeta cheese, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk

Produce

  • 1/2 cup diced red onion
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and diced

Condiments & Spices

  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Brown the sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the spicy breakfast sausage until it is browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat to ensure the dip is not greasy.
  2. Combine ingredients in slow cooker: Transfer the browned sausage to a 3-quart or larger slow cooker. Add the Velveeta cheese cubes on top of the meat.
  3. Add remaining ingredients: Mix in the sour cream, diced red onion, diced jalapeño, salsa, milk, black pepper, and garlic powder with the sausage and cheese in the slow cooker.
  4. Slow cook the dip: Cover the slow cooker and cook on high heat for 1.5 to 2 hours. Stir every 30 minutes to help the cheese melt evenly and blend all ingredients smoothly into a hot, creamy dip.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Once fully melted and heated through, serve the dip hot with corn chips, crusty bread, or vegetable sticks for dipping.

Notes

  • Adjust the number of jalapeños based on desired spice level.
  • Using Velveeta cheese ensures a smooth, creamy texture; other processed cheeses may alter consistency.
  • Stirring regularly during slow cooking prevents sticking or burning on the sides.
  • Perfect for parties, game days, or casual gatherings.
  • Can be kept warm in the slow cooker on low for serving over extended periods.
